The following is a list of items that you should bring with you on the Lightning Ridge Police Bush Safari:
The weather can range from very hot (40C) during the day to quite cold (10C or under) overnight. We suggest you take the minimum amount of luggage and clothing. Apart from your usual clothing requirements, we suggest you also consider the following:
- Warm clothes
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Swimming costime
- A good pair of sunglasses
- Washing detergent, pegs
- Personal insect repellent
- Sunscreen
- Toilet paper
- Esky or car fridge
- Raincoat
- Camera, film, memory cards, spare batteries, battery chargers
Each group's style of camping will no doubt vary. The following are just some suggestions, which may be applicable to you:
- Matches
- Spare tent pegs and poles (use heavy style pegs due to hard soil)
- Rope or twine
- Repair patches for inflatable beds
- Torch and spare batteries
- Spare mantles for gas lights
- Fold-up camping/fishing chair
- Water containers - 20 litres for drinking and 20 litres for washing/emergencies
These are essential items:
- Radiator - Barsleak
- Top and bottom radiator hose
- Fan belts
- Spare tyres (a second spare can be a good idea)
- Wheel brace and jack (check that your jack has enough lift to lift your vehicle, and is in good working order)
- Fuel filter (especially if your vehicle is fuel injected)
- Basic first aid kit (Essential!)

- Hydraulic brake fluid
- Automatic transmission fluid
- Engine oil
- Air filter
- Spare fuses
- Basic tool kit
- Spare spark plugs and points
- Tow rope
- Jumper leads
- Shovel
- Jerry can for extra fuel (for fuel guzzling vehicles)
If you're towing a trailer on the Safari, it's essential to bring spare bearings. Please also check that your bearings are packed with grease. Even though the trailer may be new, in the past many have had insufficient grease which has lead to breakdowns.
